What a month it has been for our FLAM membership! The regional conferences were a success reaching nearly 200 members with professional development. The topic of the Common Core was present at all three regional conferences. Thanks to our conference chair, Hope McPheeters along with members of the executive board and several local volunteers whose combined efforts were needed to pull something like this together.
We started in Springfield on October 5th at Missouri State University with nearly 50 in attendance. FLAM teamed with local OFLA members to host this event. We would like to thank Missouri State for waving the cost for the use of their facility.
The second of the three conferences was held on October 19 in Parkville near Kansas City at St. Therese School with approximately 50 also in attendance. Exhibitors were available for members to visit before and between sessions. We were happy to have Mike Flenthrope, president of KSWLA available to present two sessions on world language and the common core. FLAM and KSWLA will be joining forces for a combined conference October 2014 at the Kansas City Marriott on the Plaza.
On October 26 the final of the three regional conferences took place at St. Charles Community College and was done in conjunction with the local FLTA. Laura Terrill presented as keynote along with eight others for a total of 10 sessions. Eighty members were registered for this last conference of October.
Looking forward, we have CSCTFL right on the horizon and it is in St. Louis this year. It has not been in our state for a long time and we would like to show the other 16 states that we are a presence in Missouri! Early registration ends on January 27.
